safe and sound

Just a quick update to let everybody know I made it to Virginia safe and sound with the kids. It took 3 full days of driving, but we're here. And the drive wasn't too bad overall. I probably won't have time for a full account of the trip, but I don't imagine anybody really wants to read a detailed account of 3 days driving from Texas to Virginia.
Points of interest:
I never knew it was possible to be so ecstatically happy and so incredibly depressed at the same time, but I am/was and there you have it.
The piney woods of east Texas are very pretty.
Arkansas? Less with teh pretty, more with teh cows.
Tennessee is a very long state, but gorgeous. It apparently is never refered to as "north" or "south" Tennessee, but rather East, Middle, and West Tennessee. Okay.
There is a sign in Arkansas for a Burger King that says "We can hear your stomach growling. Next exit."
Driving in through the mountains is WAY more fun than everybody says. I'd gladly do that again anytime.
My new favourite place is Canton, North Carolina for no other reason than seeing the sign Canton [however many miles away it was at the time] made me think of Firefly and I was unable to get The Hero of Canton out of my head until we'd gone well past it. We didn't even drive through it, just past it, but yay for Canton!
3 10 hour days is hard. 3 10 hour days is especially hard with a 2 month old who hates being in a carseat.
There is nothing quite as neat as driving in the early morning rocky hills of Tennessee and seeing the icicles hanging off the edges of the rock on the side of the road.
Finally, I'm really glad to be home. I'll be even happier when Jeff is here with us.
