LotR question

Odd, I know, to be asking about Lord of the Rings when all the current talk is of Harry Potter, but I saw something and it's been buggin me.

I was watching FotR with Jeff a few nights back. At the begining, in Bilbo's narration while he's writing of the book, he mentions the date. September 22nd. His eleventy-first birthday. Not mentioned, of course, is that it's also Frodo's thirty-third bithday.

My books are all packed up and I don't want to unpack them to dig around and find this...

Does Tolkein mention in the books the date of their birthday? Or is that something Pete came up with himself? If Tolkein mentioned it, where did he say?

If Tolkein himself decided on that date... well... my Sam should have been a Bilbo or a Frodo! Entirely unplanned, not realizing at all the significance of the date, and coming 3 weeks early and totally unplanned, my Sam was born September 22nd. How's that for irony?

Frodo and Bilbo's birthday are in the book, yeah - I can't remember if it's in the main text or not, but either way the 'translation' of their birthday to the current calender as being September 22nd is definitely in the Apendices somewhere. Sam's is in there too somewhere 0 though I think Frodo would appreciate a kid born on his birthday being called Sam, so, yay. :)

And me too; the world needs more time for such things, dangit! Though the appendices are kind of a trek regardless, for the most part. I love Tolkien, but "dry" would be putting it kindly. Heh.

In Appendix B, there's a calender with the main dates and yes, Bilbo's and Frodo's birthday is on the 22nd of September. :)

On my birth club message board, somebody set up this girlfriend/boyfriend thing. Pretty cheesy overall but kind of cute at the same time. One of my friends and I got together and set up our kids... my son and her son. :P We're the only gay baby couple.
