You forget, months after the fact, just exactly how tired you really are the first few months with a newborn. He's one month old now (as of yesterday) and just started sleeping in 3 hour stretches instead of 2. Last night, thanks to Jeff taking him during his awake periods, I was able to sleep from 9:30 to 11:30, midnight to 2:30, and 3 to 6:30. Yay for sleep! Night before last I was only able to sleep from 12:30 to 3:30... he was up from 8 (Alex's bedtime, of course) to midnight and then again from 3:30 to 7 (and Alex was up at 6:30). So needless to say, I was really really really really tired. Last night was good though.
Am also dealing with a sick kid today, as Alex has a stomach bug. She finally stopped throwing up and says she feels better, but we're not risking going out or doing anything but camping on the couch and watching movies. I never realized just how hard it would be to take care of a sick kid, clean up kid puke, and try to keep a newborn happy...
Every day I am amazed at just how different (and sometimes hard, sometimes easy) it is to take care of two children instead of one. The baby stage seems a lot easier with Sam than it was with Alex, though he's not any easier a baby than she was... in some ways he's more fussy/difficult than she was.
I know I don't update much anymore and when I do it's mostly about baby/kid/mom stuff... but that's kind of my life right now. If you don't want to hear about it, let me know and I'll set up a baby/kid/mom stuff filter.
On the plus side, looks like next weekend I might get brave enough to leave the kids with a sitter and Jeff and I will get to go see Serenity! Finally! Assuming, of course, it's still in our local theater. If it's not still here, I know it will probably still be in one of the bigger theaters further away, and we might venture out to them if I think I can handle it. I just... he's so little still! It'll be good to get out though and I've been dying to see Serenity since it came out September 30.

Date: 2005-10-23 06:31 pm (UTC)Do see Serenity! It's just awesome. I only got to see one and a half episodes of Firefly, but liked what I saw, then Serenity blew me away. Now I'm catching up on Firefly via the DVDs. Enjoy.
