Wow... an update...
Jul. 15th, 2002 10:58 amIt's been awhile, I know. I haven't had a lot of time lately. I've had a friend in from out of town, and she's gone back home now, but it was great while she was here. It was insanely busy, but fun. She left yesterday. Alex just adored her. Alex learned how to drink from a straw yesterday afternoon. Now all we need to do is teach her not to topple her cup over or turn it upside down to watch the milk/juice/water drip or pour out. She loves music and stops to dance at any music that comes on telly or radio. She especially adores the Hamtaro ending theme song. It seems to be her favourite. I downloaded it onto Jeff's computer and I play it for her. If I don't repeat it when it's done playing, she gets very upset and bangs on the chair until I start it again. She dances too. It's adorable! I need to get a video camera.
Thanks to everyone who requested pictures and responded with how cute Alex is. :) She's a good, even mix of me and Jeff, which is nice. She's got my hair colour, my eye colour, and my chin. She's got Jeff's hair pattern (except the cowlick in front... that came from me), Jeff's facial structure, Jeff's eye shape, Jeff's ears... pretty much she's set up like Jeff but she's got my colouring. We aren't sure who's nose it is, as it's still the squished baby button nose, which will change as she gets older.
Had an interesting adventure yesterday. It's been pouring down rain through most of yesterday, last night, and most of today. Well, we had to take my friend to the airport yesterday so she could go home. Bush Intercontinental Airport is a nice airport, but the roads are built rather oddly in that they are low and flat and dip down in places... so they flood easily. We got her into the airport okay. We got her bags out and sent her into the chaotic mess that is the airport when it rains. We, being me, Jeff, and my friend B, went on our way home. Halfway down Will Clayton (the road to and from the airport) we were dealing with a mess of traffic. This is not surprising as people freak out when it rains, especially since we went through Allison last year and everything got flooded out. The water was up on the roads fairly high, so everybody leaving the airport was in the left hand lane almost up on the curb to avoid the water. We were halway to the highway when we passed a traffic light and stalled out in the middle of the water. We couldn't have avoided it, and we hoped we could make it through as cars smaller than us did, but it didn't work. To have stopped would have meant blocking off the insane traffic behind us. To try to get up on the curb and the median would have damaged the car and probably flooded us anyway (as water was pooling in the median too). We could go to the right to get out of the way because we would have flooded there. So we went forward, made it halfway through the deep water, and stalled out. The engine wouldn't turn over, so Jeff got out to push with some very nice ladies who work at a nearby rental car place. They came wading over to help us. We got it out of most of the water when they went on to help the cars behind us that also stalled out (there were quite a few that didn't make it after us). B took the drivers seat and steered the car. I got out and Jeff and I pushed the car almost a mile up the road until it was well past all the flood water. We got it towed to the house and it's soon to be towed to the dealer to get fixed. It was an interesting adventure to say the least. First time I've ever flooded a car, and I hope it's the last time too. Pushing a car through water while getting rained on is not fun. I couldn't even see what I was doing because I wear glasses and am mostly blind without them, and unfortunately I'm not a witch and couldn't cast a water repelling charm on them.
Sent a letter off to Circe to make sure she's still alive. I hope it reaches her soon. Last time I sent something to her, the post took forever and it didn't get there for a week and a half, even though I sent it priority. Bah, stupid post.
Alex has a new tooth. That makes seven now, and they are all pushing through in a rather odd order. Most babies get their two bottom front teeth, two top front teeth, bottom teeth beside the front, top teeth beside the front, and then on back. Not Alex. She got her bottom teeth, her top teeth, her two top side teeth, and her one year molors... on the top... in the back... and no sign of any other teeth yet. Oh well. She's just a slow teether. They'll come in eventually. At least she's a good sport about it. She's hardly fussy, just very drooly (those of you will kids will understand what I mean) and chewing on everything.
That's all for now I suppose. I'll try to update more often.
