Okay, so we all have figured out by now that Power Rangers RPM is my happy place, my favourite show, that thing I watch repeatedly because I love it so and it has eaten my brain like so many zombies, right?

I am now going to RAGE about RPM.



Completely overlooking all the other bad bad things about today's two new episodes, I'm going to focus on the one thing I can't seem to shake. And oddly enough, it's the one thing very very few people are talking about.

My darling Ziggy. The man who, while working for the mafia, stole a truck full of medical supplies worth $5 MILLION. Instead of delivering those supplies to the mafia like he was supposed to, he gave them to an orphanage full of sick kids who needed it. He then got the hell out of dodge (Corinth) before the mafia KILLED HIM.

Ziggy is the heart of the Rangers. He's like a less ethnic Ma-Ti (and yes, I'm pulling the Captain Planet thing here, deal with it).

And what did they have him do today? They had him beg, plead, and harrass the other rangers, trying to get them to agree to use the newly found MIND CONTROL DEVICE on the WOMEN of Corinth, so he could get a DATE. He wanted to use mind control... to get a date... and I... what? Seriously? This... this isn't a drama, folks. This isn't a crime show. This is POWER RANGERS. And this behaviour was presented as being OKAY and FUNNY. Yes, this was supposed to be the humour for the episode! WHAT THE FUCK, POWER RANGERS? WHAT THE FUCK.

You have driven me to foul language, show, and I just... ARG! I'm so angry right now.

Mind control to get a date isn't funny. It's sleazy. It's skeevy. It's dirty and disgusting and WRONG on every level imaginable. It's date rape, pretty much, and I can't believe they put it in the show at all.

Yes, we've had jokes about Ziggy being desperate for a date before. Okay, fine. So the boy needs to get laid. Fine. But nowhere should it be acceptable to resort to MIND CONTROL to get shagged.


And now I'd like to scrub my brain of this episode and pretend it never happened.

I really have to agree. It was just so... unZiggy! I have always seen Ziggy as a clumsy, energetic, slightly naive guy that has a hint of that 'wrong place, wrong time' bad luck but has a good heart and means well.

This just... just... I'm speechless. And I'm the girl everyone turns to when they need a new word!

If it is possible to mentally unsee something I'd really like to know how right now! Because that was just so not Ziggy!!

I wonder what Milo's reaction to having to that was. I'll have to look for an interview or something later.

I'm glad I'm not the only one bothered by it! Just... ugh.

If you find that interview, let me know. I'd love to know Milo's thoughts on that particular storyline. Because it is a big deal, and yeah he's an actor so of course he had to do it, but I'd like to hear how he approached it as an actor and how he felt about the way it was portrayed.

Mind, I'd like to hear Milo's thoughts on anything RPM related as he's been the most quiet cast member to date, I think. We hear a lot from Dan at least... not that I'm complaining. Dan seems a cool guy to sit around and have a beer with. ;)

But people were I don't think Ziggy was serious about the mind control...I was like Uhhh he's been like this since episode one. Any/every thing to enhance himself to make women swoon is what he's trying to do. And he fails. Always.

Well up until this episode, we thought it was just the truck. In Ranger Green, Fresno Bob said the contents of the truck was worth $5 million, so that's what we had to go on... again, writers need to review their show, y'know?

Yeah, but there is a huge difference between "Can I wear the suit on dates?" and "Let's use this mind control device to get women to date us!". Biiiggggg difference. And there you have the difference between Eddie and Judd. Eddie made it funny. Judd makes it illegal.

That's also one of the (many) reasons I pegged Ziggy as gay, but likely repressed. He is very... vocal... about liking women. He tries too hard, and it's not that it fails, it's that he's always focused on it. Like he has to force it. We know Flynn is straight, he's shown an interest in Gemma, but it's not a constant "Hey look at me, look at me, I like girls, I'm a good straight boy, see me being straight?" like it is with Ziggy. It's like he's trying too hard to prove he's straight, when he'd probably be much happier (and calmer) if he'd just come out of the closet. :P

Well Ziggy was in jail for a while (not just in the beginning of the series from what he told K.) maybe he started to like it XD

Hah, I actually wrote a (very bad) fic about that. There are a lot of things, other than cooking, one is likely to learn in prison. ;)

I'm pretty sure he did like it. 3 square meals a day, a warm bed to sleep in, and if you're a member of the right cartel and haven't screwed everybody else over (which based on the Scorpion cartel members that shooed the guards away with a nod of their head while retrieving Ziggy for Fresno Bob, I'd say the Scorpion Cartel has a good strong hold in the Corinth prison), a bit of protection.

I totally agree--I hate that the writers keep doing this, rather than giving Ziggy a little more development. He can still be funny and grow as a person!
