Apr. 13th, 2009 08:34 amLike all of you, I'm angry about the current underhanded shenanigans from Amazon. I want to know what happened and why. I want to pull my support for them. I'm sure you all know what's going on, but I'll link anyway: copperbadge talks about it and meta writer has a post and it's all over the blogosphere. Amazon fails.
Have a comprehensive list of books with ranks pulled for your anger inducing perusing.
And in my anger I'll contribute to this: Amazon Rank Amazon Rank Amazon Rank Amazon Rank and for good measure, here, have a Amazon Rank.
That being said, I want to give Amazon the benefit of the doubt. Mind, how they've handled this is still really shitty and I'm still really angry. But I know a standard customer service script when I hear one, and the replies given since February for the adult content material IS standard customer service script material. They can't actually look into a problem, they don't have time and aren't allowed. Trying to actually help a person can get you fired. Call centers suck. For one possible theory, which I'm not sure how much I believe in the first place (but I'm kind of desperately flailing for some sort of explanation, no matter how out there it is), here's this theory.
Even if this does turn out to be some massive underground effort by some homophobic WHACAKALOONS, it does not excuse anything Amazon has done. I'm still angry. I'm still likely to pull my support. I just want to know why they allowed this and how they could respond so poorly.
