Feb. 21st, 2003 08:04 pmHad a small minor revelation today. Despite the fact that it's been a horribly, very hard, very long, very bad day, I have a miniscule something to be happy about. I finally went about finding correct song lyrics to a favourite song of mine and now it makes ever so much more sense. The problem is, despite my usual understanding of even the most atrocious or difficult accents, I could not for the life of me figure out half of what the lead singer of 3 Doors Down was singing in the song When I'm Gone. Now part of this is because the man mumbles some of the lyrics. A major part of it is his accent. I live amongst this accent. I encounter it on a daily basis and have been for the past 10 years... that's right, 10 whole years. To be exact: 10 years, 2 months, 16 days, and 1.5 hours (yes, I have the date we arrived in Texas down to the hour). And I still can't understand it. It's the only accent I have trouble with. I can even understand Brad Pitt in Snatch, but I can't understand the southern country accent. It's what we, around here, call the "good ol' boy" accent (ol' being the country term for old). The lead singer of 3 Doors Down is, apparently, a "good ol' boy" and therefore very difficult for me to understand. But I went and got song lyrics today. Don't know why it took me so long. I understand the song better now, and I like it even more than before. Anyone else curious? Click the link. Couldn't care less? Then feel free to ignore it.
When I'm Gone by 3 Doors Down
There's another world inside of me
That you may never see
There's secrets in this life
That I can't hide
Somewhere in this darkness
There's a light that I can't find
Maybe it's too far away...
Or maybe I'm just blind...
Maybe I'm just blind...
[chorus]
So hold me when I'm here
Right me when I'm wrong
Hold me when I'm scared
And love me when I'm gone
Everything I am
And everything you need
I'll also be the one
You wanted me to be
I'll never let you down
Even if I could
I'd give up everything
If only for your good
So hold me when I'm here
Right me when I'm wrong
You can hold me when I'm scared
You won't always be there
So love me when I'm gone
Love me when I'm gone...
When your education x-ray
Cannot see under my skin
I won't tell you a damn thing
That I could not tell my friends
Roaming through this darkness
I'm alive but I'm alone
Part of me is fighting this
But part of me is gone
[chorus]
Maybe I'm just blind...
[awesome guitar/drum instrumental bit]
[chorus]
Love me when I'm gone...
Love me when I'm gone
When I'm Gone
When I'm Gone
When I'm Gone
Mm... good song. I think I may post some song lyrics to my favourite songs in the next week or so. Just because I like them. And they mean something to me. And I like to share things that are meaningful to me.
Oh, and for anyone who might have been curious, my last icon was of Jeff and Alex when she was just a week or so old. It's my favourite picture of both of them. My icon now is about the only girly picture I have of myself. It was my fourth birthday. I'm the one on the left, in the blue dress holding up the My Little Pony seahorse. That and Rainbow Brite were my only girlie indulgences as a young child. The girl on the right is my best and first friend ever. She still lives in the DC area. I miss her a lot.
