Nov. 6th, 2006 12:34 pmSo... that plan to update more often... almost forgot about that. :P
School is on hold. I'm actually going to go for an LPN as opposed to an RN. I've had a taste of the RN paperwork vs. patient care and I decided, at least for now, I like the patient care much more than I like the paperwork. LPNs get a lot more patient care time than RNs, so off to LPN school I go... when classes start back up in the spring anyway.
Still working fast food. It's not glamourous. It's hard, heavy, and incredibly dirty. But I'm actually mostly enjoying my job, solely because of the people I work with. I've got a great group of co-workers. My managers are AWESOME. I'd even count one of them as one of my best local friends... and I don't have a lot of friends. My 3 fellow night shift employees (you heard me right... 3 other night shifters, that's it... we're really short staffed) are great too. One keeps to himself mostly, he's a quiet guy, but he's a hard worker and very nice... he went the extra mile to help me out when I was sick last week and I really appreciate him for that, even though he's new, didn't have to help, and hasn't even come close to being trained on register/drive-thru. The other 2 are a mother/daughter team and they're just hilarious. I think I'd hate my job a lot more if I were on dayshift with some of the people I've met there. I used to float between the two... nightshift during the week, dayshift on weekends. Now, however, I'm the only non-manager trained to close drive-thru, so I'm working 6 nights a week with one day off, and a manager closes drive-thru on my only night off. The work sucks, but hey, the paycheck is kind of nice.
Alex is doing really well in kindergarten. I had a meeting with her teacher, I wanted to know where she stood in regards to classwork, anything we needed to work on, etc etc etc. According to her teacher (who has some really innovative and creative methods of teaching, she's great!) she's one of the best students in the class with top marks in coursework. She pays attention, she works hard, she gives it her best, and she's advancing by leaps and bounds. She's writing really well... even sentances! She reads some, basic books mostly (the My First Reader type)... more advanced than Dick and Jane, but she's a long way off from Harry Potter yet. She still has her typical 5 year old days, but mostly she's really well behaved and I'm shocked every day at how well she deals with Sam. Still little to no jealousy issues, no behaviour problems, no inflicting injury or shoving (well, on her part anyway... Sam on the other hand...). She loves her baby brother, even when he gets all up in her stuff.
Sam just started walking but he won't do it unless he's holding onto somebody/something... usually a finger. He doesn't physically need the assistance, but mentally/emotionally he's not ready to let go yet, so he still holds on. He's far far less independant than Alex was, far far more clingy, and considerably less of a risk-taker, but part of me really likes that. He's quite a reserved little man. He has 5 teeth, his two top and bottom and one molar in the back. The others will come soon enough, I suppose. The top teeth aren't all the way in yet and kind of make it look like he has fangs, which worked well with his Halloween costume (Count Samula: The Sampire, stark contrast to Alex's beautiful Princess Butterfly). Pictures to come when Jeff gets the camera to actually successfully communicate with the computer.
That's really all going on with my life, I suppose. Kind of boring, but hey, we're pretty happy with it.
