queenriley: (the kids)
Had to record this for posterity:

In the car Sunday, as I was driving, something cute happened. I had the carseats installed Sam rear-facing behind the passenger (nobody could ride comfortably in my car that way, though), Alex forward facing (still harnessed!) behind the driver.

Alex was talking and playing and all of a sudden I hear her straining and going "Grab my hand, Sam! Grab it, grab it!" She was stretched as far over as she could go (not very far... she's in there good and tight) and was reaching her arm as far as she could get it across the backseat to Sam. She fell just a wee bit short of Sam's carseat. I looked in the rearview mirror as she was doing this and saw Sam reach his pudgy little hand out and take hers. She smiled, he made a happy "Ahhh" noise, and they held hands in the car quietly for a good 5 minutes.

Sunday night, after work, at 1am, I went outside and pushed and prodded and struggled, but I did it. I rearranged the carseats. Sam is now behind the driver. The seat can't go back at all, it has to be all the way forward, which is how I need it in order to drive, so that's okay. It just means nobody else can drive my car. Alex is secure in the middle. Right next to Sam. Yesterday we went for a drive and they were both so happy to be right next to each other. Alex talked to Sam, Sam "talked" to Alex. They laughed, they smiled, they played, they had fun, they were happy. Right next to each other (and believe me, it was a tight squeeze).

Gosh I love my kids.
