May. 26th, 2009 08:17 amComment to this entry and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. You must then update your journal and answer the following questions:
1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?
second_batgirl gave me Chuck, Power Rangers, Star Trek
Chuck
1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
I have a real life friend that dabbles in geekdom but is not even remotely involved in any fandom. She told me about this great show she watches and told me I had to give it a try because it was right up my alley, so I went and downloaded it. It was mid-first season. I was hesitant to watch, though, because it came on at the same time as The Big Bang Theory, one of my main tv loves. I hemmed and hawed and put off watching Chuck for awhile, but she kept prodding me until one day, lacking anything else, and about a week before the season finale, I caved. I watched. I watched some more. I fell in LOVE. I watched second season via the website because, at first, I wasn't willing to give up TBBT. Then we found out it was in limbo. I watched it live, knowing it didn't really matter since I'm not a Neilson family, but then would watch it again on the website. I actively participated in the numerous Save Chuck campaigns and IT WORKED! We have a third season... short, but at least it's there.
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
I'll be here for quite some time, I'm sure, though I do believe I will eventually move on, years down the road. I love this show like no other.
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
Oh so hard to choose! Chuck Versus the Sandworm, Chuck Versus the Alma Mater, Chuck Versus the Nemesis, Chuck Versus Tom Sawyer, Chuck Versus the Best Friend, Chuck Versus the Dream Job, Chuck Versus the Ring... oh shoot, pretty much every episode.
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
I participate in discussions some, but I haven't written fanfic or done any graphics as I think my fic writing sucks and I KNOW I'm not so hot at graphics.
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?
Absolutely! If nothing else, at least watch the show. It really is worth it. Seriously, it's AWESOME.
Power Rangers
1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
I watched the first episode for whatever reason, I can't remember, but I know I was excited about it. Probably because it looked like a live action Voltron? I don't know... I was 12. I watched everything after that through the first few episodes of Turbo (oh g-d it hurts), picked it up with PRiS, dropped off again after that, and didn't pick up watching regularly again until SPD. I even watched Mystic Force, bad though it was (it had so much potential!).
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
Well,
second_batgirl and I have a blog. And I've been in the fandom since I was 12. I'm 28 now, so after 16 years... no, I can't really see myself moving on much. Did I mention we have a blog?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
Pudgy Pig! High Five was good (and shippy). Just about anything focusing on Billy, Jason (mmmJasonsarms), Billy and Trini, Rocky, Rocky and Adam, Bridge, or Bridge and Z, well I'm pretty much guaranteed to like it (except the fish planet).
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
We have a blog. I write fic, but never post it. I don't really do graphics because, again, my artistic abilities basically don't exist. But did I mention the blog? If I haven't, I really ought to mention that I participate in this fandom with
second_batgirl by co-writing a blog.
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?
Only if they really want to. I admit, cheesy childrens television with little plot, sporadic character development, and no continuity, involving some attractive people wearing spandex, isn't for everybody. It takes a special kind of special to love Power Rangers the way I do. ;)
Star Trek
1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
I don't know of a time when Star Trek wasn't a part of my life. I watched TOS off and on with my dad, but don't remember much. I watched the premiere episode of TNG with my parents and watched every single episode as it aired after that for the full seven seasons. I was only 6-going-on-7 when it premiered, but I never missed an episode. Ever. No matter what. I watched DS9 almost all the way through, giving up for awhile somewhere mid season 5 and watching only sporadically after until season 7. I watched season 7 as it aired without fail. I even gave Voyager a fair shot, watching a season and a half (judging by the few season 2 eps I remember), but stopped after that. Enterprise got one episode on it's first run but I was so angry I wouldn't watch for quite some time. I did go back and watch about a year ago and while it's really just THAT bad, I like it anyway (though I tend to forget it's actually supposed to be in the Star Trek universe, so that probably helps me not hate it so much). All that just to say, Star Trek has been a part of my life since the day I was born. It was as much a staple in my household as bread or water. That will not change. Ever. My children are growing up with Star Trek. I will die, hopefully of old age, clinging to Star Trek.
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
I'm not super deep into fandom here, but I do sporadically seek out fanfic and icons, so I can't see myself leaving it anytime soon.
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
Hahahahahaha. *breath* Hahahahahahahahahaha. No really. You want me to pick a favourite episode from FIVE series spanning the course of 43 YEARS? Are you (general you, not specific you) insane? Let's just say TNG is my favourite of the series, with DS9 being a close second, and we'll leave it at that, yes? (I, Borg. I LOVE I, Borg.)
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
Only peripherally, but I do sometimes get involved in discussions. I lurk more than anything else, but I've always been a classic lurker.
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?
Absolutely! My love for Star Trek knows no bounds and I think most people could find something to like in at least one of the series. :D
