I am VERY late on this. It has not been betaed and hasn't even really had much of a read through. But I'm late enough as it is.

Fandom: Power Rangers
Rating: G
Summary: Adam is an adult now. Birthdays aren't supposed to be fun anymore.
Written for: TSB's birthday! Which was like three weeks ago. I am SLOW.
Disclaimer: Not mine. If they were, there'd have been far less Zord fights and far more kissing.

Adam jumped awake, the early morning light just starting to peak through the blinds. He was disoriented for a minute, jerking left and right trying to locate the source of the noise that woke him so suddenly. His phone jangled noisily on the bedside table.

“What?” he asked sleepily. The phone rang again. He forced his eyes to focus on the screen and realized he’d not actually hit the answer button. He pressed it and put the phone back to his ear.

“Hello?” he mumbled. A loud round of Happy Birthday assaulted his ear and he recoiled, very glad Aisha couldn’t see his actual reaction.

“Too early to be so cheerful.” Of course it wasn’t early in the morning in Africa, but Adam’s brain was not awake enough to process that fact and he was only slightly irritated that Aisha has to point it out to him.

“Yes, happy birthday to me. Got the message. K. Thanks. Love you. Bye.” Adam mashed the buttons on his phone, hoping one of them would actually hang up for him, and collapsed back onto the bed.

“Whazzat?” a voice mumbled beside him.

“Aisha wanted to be the first to wish me a happy birthday.” He must be awake now. He could sting a whole sentence together. Rocky yawned and blinked up at him.

“Well aren’t you lucky,” he smiled. Adam chuckled and looked at the clock. 6:04 am. Too early to be up, but too late to go back to sleep.

“I’m going to kill her when we go visit her this summer.” Rocky laughed outright and Adam knew what he was thinking. He wouldn’t kill Aisha. He wouldn’t even scold her. Instead he’d hug her tight and never let her go, and Rocky would do the same.

“Too late?” Rocky asked, blinking blearily at the clock. Adam hummed in the back of his throat.

“Too early, too,” he sighed. Rocky scooted closer, pressing himself right up against Adam’s side.

“I can fix that.” Adam definitely wasn’t going to stop him. Rocky’s plan was far more fun than sleep anyway.

It was a good day, overall. He certainly hadn’t been expecting much. Birthdays just weren’t as exciting as when he was a kid. But it was nice to be recognized. And recognized he definitely was! Rocky had helped all the kids in Adam’s classes at the dojo make cards. Kira had called from Reefside, Jason and Emily had called from Newtech City, Carlos and Ashley had called and said they’d drop by later, and Tanya sent him a package with an early release of her newest cd in it… complete with a bonus song dedicated just to him. Kim had promised to drive up from LA that weekend for a visit. He’d even gathered a whole stack of birthday cards from various distant friends and family and meticulously lined them all on the mantle before heading down for his last classes of the day.

He was still debating ordering some take out or letting Rocky drag him to that new Italian joint down the street. He had time for a shower either way. Rocky’s car wasn’t even in the parking lot. Adam figured he’d end up working late that night. Rocky was one of the best social workers in the county. He worked late most nights. He put his key in the lock and turned it, flipping the lights on absently as he meandered into the apartment.

“SURPRISE!” The noise was deafening and Adam immediately fell into a defensive stance. The room erupted into laughter around him. It was heavily decorated with balloons in all the corners and streamers lining the ceiling. Rocky threw some glitter at him and Adam slowly stood up.

“What is all this?” he asked.

“Your birthday party, of course!” Kim bounced her way into view.

“But it’s Wednesday!” Adam exclaimed. He couldn’t imagine anybody escaping work just for him. But there they were. Kids from his classes, their parents, old friends and new. Carlos and Ashley were there, TJ and Cassie too. Justin, all grown up now, was hiding in a corner with Fred. Kira, Tori, even Xander had come down from Briarwood.

“And we love you, so we’re here. Even Tanya’s on Skype.” Jason pointed at the laptop. Adam couldn’t stop the smile that slowly spread across his face.

“Yes, yes, we get the picture; lots of people love you. Now come inside and enjoy the party. I spent weeks planning it, I'll have you know.” Rocky sprinkled more glitter into Adam’s hair. Adam reached out and caught him in a quick kiss, making sure to shake his head so glitter fell on Rocky instead.

“Stupid face,” he whispered. “Thanks.” Rocky just squeezed his hand and led him towards Alpha’s massive birthday cake.

No Rocky icon because this fic deserves the flail icon. Because I am so flailing. You mentioned Rocky's career and I CHEERED at my computer screen.

Also, don't feel guilt for being late because my fic for her isn't even done yet. *_*
